CPMZ participates in strategic workshop on pipeline capacity expansion, chaired by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Energy and Power Development

Companhia do Pipeline Moçambique Zimbabwe (CPMZ) promoted a workshop in Harare under the theme “Laying the Groundwork for 5 Million m³ and Beyond”.

The workshop proved to be instrumental in i) aligning the regional vision around the Beira-Harare axis where CPMZ plays a strategic role as operator of the Beira–Feruka section, ii) discussing the next steps of the pipeline expansion project and iii) reinforcing the importance of the Beira Corridor for regional energy security.

The meeting was chaired by Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, Dr. Gloria Magombo, and attended by senior representatives from Petrozim Line (PZL), the National Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe (NOIC), and the Mutapa Investment Fund.

Key topics discussed included:

  • Progress on the engineering studies for the expansion of the pipeline’s capacity to 5 million m³ per year, which are now at an advanced stage of completion.
  • The assessment of future pumping stations and other critical interventions required to increase pumping capacity, improve operational efficiency, and enhance corridor reliability.
  • The construction timeline on both sides of the border, with works expected to begin during the second half of this year and commercial operations targeted for completion by the end of 2027.
  • The importance of a shared commercial vision to maximise the utilisation of the additional capacity, strengthening Harare’s role as a regional distribution hub and bringing the Beira Corridor closer to the markets of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, DRC, Malawi and other hinterland countries.

This alignment reinforces a conviction shared by all partners, including CPMZ and the Government of Zimbabwe: one of the key success factors for regional fuel supply lies in the close and coordinated collaboration between CPMZ and Zimbabwean stakeholders, while further strengthening the Beira Corridor as the safest, most efficient and most competitive logistics solution in Southern Africa.
