CPMZ at Consulting House’s Business Breakfast – Lisbon, 30 September 2025
Commissioning of Minds – When Leadership Transforms, Culture Takes Root.
CPMZ was the guest at Consulting House’s third Business Breakfast, held in Lisbon on 30 September 2025.
Before an audience of leaders from more than twenty leading Portuguese companies, the Company shared a living story — of how rebuilding trust and changing behaviours have been generating real and visible results in the business.
Under the theme ‘Transformation in Action – The CPMZ Case,’ presented by Deputy Director-General Drª. Elsie Madeira Abdulla, the meeting was more than just a corporate sharing session: it was an inspiring account of a cultural transformation journey underway in the organisation.

During the session, Drª Elsie Abdulla spoke of a change that came from within — from the people, conversations and values that drive CPMZ today — and highlighted the rebuilding of trust, the alignment of values and the the sense of pride and belonging that are redefining this new phase of the Company.
More than just an infrastructure that has been transporting refined fuels for over five decades, CPMZ has always been recognised for its discretion, resilience and professionalism , having built over the years a solid culture and a deep sense of belonging, which became the foundation of its identity.
The seed of the transformation process was sown in 2018, when employees themselves expressed to management their desire to revive the Company’s founding values. This courageous gesture initiated this internal movement to restore the organisation’s identity.
The turning point came on 12 December 2023, CPMZ’s ‘D-Day’. During the lecture by Dr. Ricardo J. Vargas, CEO and co-founder of Consulting House, behaviours that define the five values and culture of the Company were presented: Professionalism, Team Spirit, Ethics, Resilience and Discretion.
“On that day, we all realised that transformation begins within each of us.” – Elsie Abdulla
For Dr. Ricardo J. Vargas, the success of any process of change depends on a symbolic and transformative moment, capable of marking the before and after. And that is exactly what the event on 12 December represented: the birth of a new CPMZ — more aware and culturally stronger.
With the ongoing training programme “Lead to Transform”, CPMZ has consolidated a new way of leading — more coherent, conscious and humane — supported by skills development and accountability based on values.
Beyond continuous training, the Company has deepened its journey through the “Shaping Conversations” methodology, a process that uses stories and intentional dialogues to strengthen collective awareness and shape behaviours aligned with strategy.

In this process of commissioning minds, the Company has promoted technical, human and cultural growth — and it is in this balance that the strength and sustainability of this transformation process lies.
Since the beginning of this journey, the results have been visible in increased productivity, a significant reduction in non-operational stock, falling operating costs and maximised revenues. These results represent a remarkable sign of collaboration, cohesion and commitment from the teams — pillars of a culture that has regained its vitality and purpose.
Today, CPMZ is a living example that leading with purpose is the most reliable way to restore, embed, and sustain the desired culture — and that the greatest transformations happen when people believe, act, and build together.
