To empower communities by helping them to become more prosperous, healthier and more educated.<\/h2>\n                \n                    <div class=\"description\">\n                <p><strong>We believe that the prosperity of local communities is the basis for a more resilient country and a stronger economy. CPMZ\u2019s corporate culture is built on a strong tradition of social responsibility going back over 40 years. We support local communities wherever we work, with concrete actions to improve the well-being, education and safety of the people. Together, for the human potential of Mozambique.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Building schools, awarding scholarships, supporting victims of armed conflicts and helping to rehabilitate hospital buildings. These are some of the projects we have developed to support children, young people and, in general, communities, as an integral part of our activity. Between 2012 and 2021, we invested over 4.6 million US dollars in social responsibility, which helped support thousands of people directly and indirectly.<\/p>\n<p>Always at the forefront in the fight against the social and economic emergencies of our communities, CPMZ has a history of implementing projects at critical times for Mozambique. From building schools in Manica and Sofala after the floods in 2000 to the Covid-19 vaccination programme. From supporting those displaced by the conflict in Cabo Delgado to building houses after Cyclone Idai. Our response is swift and determined so as to rapidly mitigate the impact of natural and humanitarian disasters.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to our emergency responses, our social responsibility policy also covers \u201cnormal times\u201d through our own projects (designed and managed by the CPMZ team) and direct support for public and private institutions.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div  class=\"title-description-big\">\n                        <h2 class=\"title gray-underline\">Sphere of influence<\/h2>\n                \n                    <div class=\"description\">\n                <p>CPMZ\u2019s social responsibility projects focus primarily on the communities in the Beira corridor along the pipeline route. Even so, they have an across-the-board result and overall positive impact.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div  class=\"title-description-big\">\n                        <h2 class=\"title gray-underline\">Priority areas<\/h2>\n                \n                    <div class=\"description\">\n                <p>Health and education are priority intervention areas in CPMZ\u2019s social responsibility policy. We argue that access to health, well-being and education is vital for the transformation of Mozambican society, helping to reverse the cycle of poverty, foster social development and unlock the enormous human potential of the younger generations.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div  class=\"title-description-big\">\n                        <h2 class=\"title gray-underline\">Our own projects<\/h2>\n                \n                    <div class=\"description\">\n                <p>CPMZ\u2019s social responsibility work is mainly based on carrying out a wide range of its own projects. These are initiatives designed and managed by an internal CPMZ team devoted exclusively to corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Developed in step with the communities affected by the pipeline, CPMZ\u2019s own projects stem from identifying the specific needs of these people which require a bespoke intervention.<\/p>\n<p>As part of its policy, CPMZ also grants funds to carefully selected public institutions (provincial and municipal governments) and private institutions (such as ICOR or Casa do Gaiato) in order to complement their budgets and leverage their resources. These funds contribute to greater optimization and impact of their social initiatives.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"accordion\" class=\"accordion\">\n    <div class=\"accordion-container\">\n                    <h2 class=\"accordion__main-title\">Project showcase<\/h2>\n                \n                    <div class=\"accordion__items\">\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion__header\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n                            \n                            <span class=\"accordion__item-title\">Project Educate \u2013 Access to education in a gender-equality context<\/span>\n                            <span class=\"accordion__icon\"><\/span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n                            <div class=\"content-inner \">\n                                                                    <div class=\"accordion__image\">\n                                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"230\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/cpmz.co.mz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/logo-cpmz-small.webp\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"CPMZ\" \/>                                    <\/div>\n                                                                <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n                                    <p>Given the high illiteracy rates in Mozambique, it is vital to ensure that the younger generations can have access to education and to reduce the high dropout rates. Project Educate, a CPMZ initiative, aims to remove the barriers to access to education, improve the quality of teaching, and encourage children to stay at school and continue their studies. The initiative is based on gender equality and, as such, includes specific measures for girls\u2019 education. The pilot phase of the project is based at the Nhamatanga primary school and it is forecast to continue beyond 2025 and have a broad and sustained impact on many young people in Mozambique.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of intervention:<\/strong> CPMZ\u2019s own project (in partnership with Universidade Pedag\u00f3gica de Maputo and Gorongosa National Park).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong> To remove barriers to education, lower dropout rates among pupils, provide incentive to carry on with their studies and improve the quality of teaching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology:<\/strong> The Nhamatanga primary school will pilot the design, implementation and appraisal of the Project Educate pillars. In partnership with the Universidade Pedag\u00f3gica de Maputo, a diagnosis of the teaching in this school and a characterisation of the community in which it is located will be carried out. The recommendations deriving from this appraisal will allow for ongoing improvement of teaching and teaching staff. The project also envisages the implementation of a Girls\u2019 Club (partnership with the Parque Nacional da Gorongosa) and extracurricular art, craftwork and sports workshops (arranged by Father Jos\u00e9 Luzia) which can motivate young people, encourage them to stay at school and \u2013 in the specific case of the Girls\u2019 Club \u2013 empower school-age girls and combat child marriage and pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>The roll-out of the pilot project in Nhamatanga in 2022 will be followed by result monitoring and assessment (2023-2024). The project is then expected to be rolled out in other schools and communities from 2025 onwards.<\/p>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion__header\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n                            \n                            <span class=\"accordion__item-title\">Treating children with heart disease<\/span>\n                            <span class=\"accordion__icon\"><\/span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n                            <div class=\"content-inner \">\n                                                                    <div class=\"accordion__image\">\n                                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"236\" height=\"102\" src=\"https:\/\/cpmz.co.mz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/icor-instituto-do-coracao.webp\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>                                    <\/div>\n                                                                <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n                                    <p>As part of the priority investment in health campaigns, CPMZ provided direct support for the Catheterisation and Cardiac Surgery Treatments for Children programme set up by ICOR \u2013 Instituto do Cora\u00e7\u00e3o. This funding has helped provide access to health treatments for children from needy families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of intervention:<\/strong> Direct support for institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong> To foster access to catheterisation treatment and heart surgery for children from needy sections of the Mozambican population who have been diagnosed with heart disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology:<\/strong> ICOR assesses the health status of children referred from several state hospital units in Mozambique and, if necessary, performs catheterisation or cardiac surgery procedures and provides follow-up appointments for these children. Depending on the case and where the child is from, the patient and a companion can be accommodated for weeks or months in a residence rented by ICOR near the hospital so as to ensure subsequent follow-ups and treatments.<\/p>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion__header\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n                            \n                            <span class=\"accordion__item-title\">Support for the construction of a reference laboratory in Beira<\/span>\n                            <span class=\"accordion__icon\"><\/span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n                            <div class=\"content-inner \">\n                                                                    <div class=\"accordion__image\">\n                                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"126\" src=\"https:\/\/cpmz.co.mz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/INSmz.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"\" \/>                                    <\/div>\n                                                                <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n                                    <p>In response to the serious public health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, CPMZ contributed to the construction of a reference clinical testing laboratory in Beira to boost the capacity to diagnose the new coronavirus in the centre of Mozambique. The initiative was the responsibility of the National Health Institute (INS), directly supported by CPMZ.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of intervention:<\/strong> Direct support for institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong> To contribute to laboratory diagnosis for epidemic outbreaks and boost operational capacity for diagnosing the new coronavirus in people from the centre of Mozambique.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology:<\/strong> CPMZ provided a significant portion of the funds required for the new clinical testing laboratory, and was also responsible for engaging a consultant to prepare and appraise the project. The management of the project and funds is shared by CPMZ, INS and partners.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">.<\/span><\/p>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n                                    <div class=\"accordion__item\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion__header\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n                            \n                            <span class=\"accordion__item-title\">Humanitarian response for people displaced in the Cabo Delgado conflict<\/span>\n                            <span class=\"accordion__icon\"><\/span>\n                        <\/button>\n                        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n                            <div class=\"content-inner \">\n                                                                    <div class=\"accordion__image\">\n                                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"230\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/cpmz.co.mz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/logo-cpmz-small.webp\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" alt=\"CPMZ\" \/>                                    <\/div>\n                                                                <div class=\"accordion__inner\">\n                                    <p>The conflict in Cabo Delgado brought about a dramatic humanitarian situation, with an estimated 800 000 internally displaced people. In order to provide a response to this emergency, CPMZ developed its own support project for the displaced people who were taken in along the Beira corridor, in two different ways: immediate (emergency) and ongoing. At the same time, it donated a sum to the Cabo Delegado Diocesan Caritas to support the operations carried out by the institution to rebuild the lives of displaced people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of intervention:<\/strong> CPMZ\u2019s own project (partnership with INGD \u2013 Instituto Nacional de Gest\u00e3o e Redu\u00e7\u00e3o do Risco de Desastres and with SDPI \u2013 Servi\u00e7os Distritais de Patrim\u00f3nio e Infra-estrutura de Manica e Sofala).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives:<\/strong> To meet the immediate water and food needs of the displaced people, provide housing for groups outside of the accommodation centres and provide school materials and uniforms for displaced schoolchildren.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology:<\/strong> Based on an initial appraisal (conducted by CPMZ, INGD and SDPI) of the situation of those displaced by terrorism in Cabo Delgado who were taken in along the Beira corridor, the main needs to be addressed were identified (by priority of action). In the first support phase in 2021, CPMZ (with the monitoring and support of INGD and SDPI) arranged for food distribution and the construction of water sources. In 2022, the priority is on building houses and distributing school materials and uniforms.<\/p>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n
